From the makers John Nowill & Sons Ltd. Therefore corporate name was granted by the Cutlers Company of Hallamshire, Sheffield on 27 April 1700.

The Fairbairn Sykes (F-S) fighting knife was made famous during World War II when issued to British Commandos, the Airborne Forces, the Special Air Service SAS and many other units. Especially for the Normandy landings in June 1944. However the Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife has a acutely tapered, sharply pointed blade. Therefore It is frequently described as a stiletto, a weapon optimised for thrusting. In addition the Fairbairn Sykes knife when its cutting edges are sharpened can be used to inflict further wounds. The Wilkinson Sword Company made the Fairbairn Sykes with minor pommel and grip design variations.

Brief History.

The Fairbairn Sykes was introduced to the commandos, also known as the British Commandos. They were formed during the WW 2 in June 1940, following a request from Winston Churchill. The special forces that could carry out raids against German occupied regions. Initially drawn from within the British Army from soldiers who volunteered for the Special Service brigade.  Therefore the Commandos’ ranks would eventually be filled by members of all branches of the British Armed Forces. In addition foreign volunteers from German-occupied countries.
